You won't get the full potential accuracy you would have using a top of the line optic.
The Sako rifles built in Finland are the most accurate, best built, best looking, smoothest sporting rifles i've fired. My father has owned a few Kimbers which he has since sold, including one in .280 and another in .338. But then again, I've heard nothing but good things about Sako's.
Hello i am looking for your opinion on these two rifles.
I don't have a real nice rifle so thought i would treat myself for chrismas with one. Thanks for your help i just dont know any thing about these 2 rifles in the 1500 price range, all the rifles i have are cheap ones.
The entire package is only as good as the weakest link.
Don't invest in a great rifle and than put a cheap scope on it.
I guess it depends on what you want, If you want a .300 Win Mag I believe your only option of the 2 is the Sako 85.
I was just helping a friend do some workups for his 6.5 Swede Tikka T3. I have never handloaded for a Sako/Tikka that wouldn't easily spit out sub MOA groups after the most basic handload tuning. You can go buy Winchester off the shelf and get 1/2" groups! But if you handload with premium bullets they will shock you.
I bought a Tika 270 two years back and it shoots honest-to-god 1/2 MOA groups. Mine is a 300 wsm, walked out of gander mountain with the gun anda lupold scope for 0.
Yes it does have some cheaper bits on it, but the barrel, bolt, and trigger are straight out of the sako.
Second choice would be Remington 700 BDL, factory engraved.. It is a well made rifle, that points where I am looking, and carries nicely. Hello i am looking for your opinion on these two rifles.
With hunting season coming to a close , and the economy being what it is, I would think you could find a really nice one at a fair price. It's a weapon people, not just a shiny gadget to drool over and treat like a Ming Vase. While doing some load testing with a 6x scope, some handloads made with 4831SC and 100 grain Nosler Ballistic tip bullets, it put 10 bullets into a tiny bit more than an inch at 100 yards.
